Pagan Playlists - Summer Solstice 2018 Edition

by Denise, HPS of North Wyldewood Coven

This season’s playlist is filled with the joyous freedom and heat of the summer sun, and, the sensuous magick of moonlit sultry nights.

Fire, Power, Vitality, Creativity, Magick, the Fae - Good Folk - Shining Ones, Desire and Passion, Death in Life

When anything reaches its peak what follows is a descent. In this case, on the Summer Solstice the Sun is closest to those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere, and, at the peak of its power; however, after its 3-day stand still its power will diminish “...and go into the West.” Slowly. And then at the Winter Solstice it will be at its lowest point. If you mark the time of sunrise in a Journal you will become more aware of this annual occurrence. Nothing lasts forever for everything has its time and place in the great Cycle. So live in the present and make the most of your time: follow your bliss, live your truth, and “gather ye rosebuds while ye may.”

Summer is the time of year that kids have off of school (except for my school), families plan vacations ... and teachers too! Some workplaces have summer hours on Fridays with a casual dress code. Men and women expose more skin to tan and/or find relief from the heat. Picnics, parks, beaches and pools, barbecues, amusement parks that offer thrills, and, vacation trips providing adventure. These are all getaways to another place, an “Otherworld” of sorts.

Speaking of the Otherworld, just like at Beltane and Samhain, Midsummer’s Eve opens the door to that magickal realm of fae, elementals, spirits and ancestors, and gods. So be courteous to those you meet during this time. You never know. But being rude to the Good Folk and Others is NEVER a good idea.

The Playlist

Festival season has started in the Pagan world as well and when you’re on the road to join a spiritual community for friendships, workshops, shopping, and the awesome Fire Circles, you want to transition smoothly from one world to the other.

You will notice that in this music selection I made some mundane (non-pagan) choices. Even the mundane is filled with magicks! One life is not separate from the other. So there are a few show tunes (Hair), Grunge (Eddie Vedder and Blind Melon), country, folk, rock, along with pagan tunes in this sabbat’s playlist.

Enjoy! Glad Midsommar to you!
